What Are The Most Important Factors If I Want To Create My Own Website ?
Ok, so you have a great idea that’s going to make you big bucks , you’re excited, enthusiastic and passionate about it, you’re all ready to get started online and make this happen,
“ How Do I Create My Own Website ” , is probably the question that is popping into your head right about now.
Well firstly , don’t worry about that, there are many options, from hiring a company like us to do it for you , to good do-it-yourself website creators such as Joomla and WordPress, that let you easily build your own site without having to bother to learn html or all of the techy stuff that sends people to sleep.
But before you start let me offer you a quick word or two of advice gleaned from our years of building hundreds of websites for people at our company Wonderweb
You see often people would come to us with their ideas for a business.
Full of enthusiasm , passion and dreams.
They knew what their business was going to offer , and now they wanted a website to promote them.
Many times their website was going to be their primary means of promotion, so internet marketing was the main way they were expecting to bring business in to their company.
Which is just fine, in fact it’s a great way to go about things.
I highly recommend setting up an internet business to anyone that really wants to start an enjoyable, profitable business.
But here’s the thing.
If you’re going to start an internet business, then understand how the internet works before you begin and position yourself accordingly.
So what do I mean by that ?
Well as people would come to us asking “ How do I create my own website ?” we would run through the options with them, from us doing it all for them to the various ways they could create their own site.
But that wasn’t really the important stuff.
The important stuff was the stuff that they often wanted to rush over and pretty much ignore in the rush to get their new, fancy looking website built and online.
Because the first questions we would ask would usually knock people back a bit ,
“ Do you know which keywords best describe you and your business ?”
“ Do you know if there is commercial potential for these keywords ?”
“ Do you know if enough people search for these keywords to make it worth while building a site around them?”
“ Do you know if these keywords are ones that people actually use to buy products such as yours? ”
“ What’s the competition like in your market ? ”
“ Who are your main competitors? ”
“ What keywords are they using to attract customers ?”
And so the list would go on.
Now this is not an indictment of our customers.
We deal with this stuff for a living so it’s what we do.
Our customers aren’t web designers or internet marketers so probably wouldn’t know the first thing about these things and often don’t.
But it knocks them back a bit when we tell them that we need to get the answers to these questions first, before we begin building.
Because they have their ideas of “ No , I have a great idea for the logo and graphic, let’s get it up ”
But often what our customers think are good ideas and what actually are the most important factors for their success are very different.
And we have to rein them in and slow them down a bit, so that they create a website with solid foundations that gives them a good chance of being profitable.
So how does that apply to you ?
Well if you are reading this there is a good chance that you have an idea , or a few ideas about your business.
You are probably at the stage where you are asking yourself “ How do I create my own website?”
Well before you do, just do a little research, you can use free tools such as the Google keyword tool to see how many people are searching for your keywords.
You can go onto google and check out your competition and gauge your likely chances of success.
I mean if you are in a market where your big competitors are companies like Nike or IBM you may want to have a bit of a re-think or at least focus on a niche within that market.
Take your passion, your enthusiasm for your business and create a great website, but take the time to do the research you need to build your business on solid foundations.
Those few hours are THE most important ones you could spend on your business, and they are the ones that we often see neglected the most.
