I have a degree in Philosophy……………honestly I do.
Not something that you would think would lend itself to marketing right ??
I mean philosophy gives off images of deep thinking men sitting around looking serious and well…… thinking about stuff.
But that’s a lot of what goes on at the start of any marketing campaign, you can’t just rush in all guns blazing with the first idea you have.
Anyway the one philosopher that for me stood head and shoulders above all others and has actually been credited with speeding up human evolution with his quantum leap contribution to the species, was Socrates.
Again thats Socrates the philosopher not the captain of the brazilian 1982 world cup football team.
Anyway socrates method was very simple.
Unlike all the other philosophers who had some really complex theories and world views, and that their explanation and only their explanation was the right one, Socrates simply came from the premise that he knew nothing.
Yep, nothing,
and that by asking questions of other people he could come to the answers that they were both seeking.
Very simple, yet geniusly ( is that a word ) effective and powerful.
The power of asking questions.
And it is something we should take heed of and apply in our business efforts.
Whether we are a small business or multi-national corporation.
Asking the right questions , makes you more money.
And it’s devastatingly simple to do it right.

P.S . I love this article because it mentions and draws on the principles of Elmer Wheelers marketing masterpiece “Tested Sentences That Sell.”
If you are in marketing in any way, shape or form and have a business or organisation of any size, do yourself a favour and get that book and devour it.
