Hello everyone, with recent economic times dominating the headlines, i thought it would be a good time to discuss starting an internet home business.
Many people are finding themselves in a similar situation, they have been made redundant, are worried they will face redundancy, or are worried about their future prospects and want to make a better future for themselves and their family.
Starting a business of any kind can be a traumatic experience, there is so much to think about, legal advice, accountants, administration, stock control etc. With an internet home business you can remove many of the stresses of traditional business and fully automate your new venture using technology, even if your a complete internet newbie. Below I’m going to touch on some of the facts regardingstarting an internet home business and try to remove the fiction to save you time and money.
Fact 1: You will not make millions overnight
The internet is stuffed with information on starting an internet home business, some of it good, however the majority of it can be mis-leading. If you do a quick Google search for the key phrase “internet home business” you will see the following mis-leading adverts, ” Make $10,000 and month” “Dream lifestyle working from home” etc etc. The majority of schemes are based at the US market and from my own personnel experience, US marketing has a negative impact of the UK consumer.
If you are going to run your own successful Internet home business, you must realise very quickly that it is not a get rich quick scheme, you will not make millions overnight, and that websites take hard work and determination to make them pay, just like any other business.
Fact 2: Research is key to a successful internet home business
Starting an online business takes research. Lots of research. They key to success is to find a niche that has high search volumes and low amounts of competition. Competitive markets such as gambling, finance, viagra and business all have huge amounts of search traffic from Google every month, but the amount of competition makes it nearly impossible for a newbie to have any type of success in these areas.
My advice is to use Google’s free keyword tool to do some research. Find out what people are searching for in medium search volumes. Research your choosen subject and look at the competition. Try to find a set of keywords that have sensible search figures, approx 10-15 thousand a month and check out the quality of the websites that are competing for that keyword. With a little bit of research you should be able to find a niche that has healthy search volumes and low quality competiton, once you have established this its time to start thinking about your internet home business plan.
Fact 3: Finding the right product
You have established a niche that you think will be profitable, but how do you go about finding the correct product to sell?
There are several options to consider here:
- Sell someone elses product and earn a commission ( affiliate marketing )
- Create your own product ( physical or informative )
- Buy stock and re-sell it at a higher price ( wholesale and drop shipping )
I will go into this is more detail later on, but out of the above options, i would only choose one, and that is to create my own product.
If you can create your own informative product in the form of a DVD, PDF download or Video content, then you get to keep 100% of the profits . Your creating a product that is unique to you and you get to reep the rewards. Where the internet is concerned, information is the key.
Fact 4: Start small, think big
If its your first time setting up an internet home business, then dont get ahead of yourself. Start small. Most people can dip their toe into the water while maintaining their current job, and only when the income from your internet home business overtakes that of your current job should you consider concentrating full time on your internet home business.
You can start off by selling on eBay to get a feel for it, and i will post another whole article just on settin up an internet home business on eBay later this month. Once you have created or sourced a profitable product that is selling on eBay, its easier to turn that into a full time business. Take a look on eBay and look at the products people are selling, how much they are been sold for and how many people are bidding on those products. You may be able to replicate what they are doing to take your market share, or you may just come up with a few ideas of your own.
Once you have a feel for the internet and how providers such as PayPal and eBay work, you can then start to look at expanding your internet home business empire by starting your own website and marketing strategy. There are many different methods of making money online, it can be over welming all the offers and programs you can join, but the key is to keep it simple, start off small and not try to do it all at once or you will get confused and frustrated and end up back in your normal job very quickly.
